Der erste programmierbare Tischrechner für Forschung und Wissenschaft war der HP 9100 A. Bereits sechs Jahre später bot der Taschenrechner HP 65 die gleichen Möglichleiten.
Die HP-Tischrechner wurden aber weiter ausgebaut und bildeten den Übergang zu den Minicomputern. Preis 1968: um 23.000 DM
