Der Plia-Klappstuhl entworfen von Giancarlo Piretti wurde erstmals auf der Mailänder Möbelmesse 1967 präsentiert und als "Offenbarung der neuen Kunststoff-Ära" gefeiert. Plias Entwurf avancierte zum Inbegriff des Italo-Design. Der Klappstuhl aus Stahlrohr mit transparenter Kunststoffsitzfläche und Rückenlehne hat ein "Drei-Scheiben-Gelenk" aus Druckguss und ist zusammengeklappt nur 5 cm hoch. 1973 erhielt der Stuhl die Auszeichnung "Gute Form" des Museums of Modern Art in New York. Der Stuhl wird unverändert immer noch hergestellt.
