Der HP 35 war der erste technisch-wissenschaftliche Taschenrechner der Welt. Für trigonometrische und exponentielle Rechenfunktionen war man vorher noch auf Rechenschieber oder Logarithmentafeln als Hilfsmittel angewiesen. Die schon vorhandenen Taschenrechner beherrschten nur die vier Grundrechenarten. Der Verkaufspreis lag 1972 bei ca. 2000 DM.
