Im Juni 1782 begann sich Johann Helfrich Müller in Darmstadt mit der Konstruktion einer Rechenmaschine zu beschäftigen. Bis zum Juni 1784 arbeiteten verschiedene Uhrmacher unter Müllers Anleitung am Bau der Maschine. Müllers Maschine ähnelt vom Aufbau den Rechenmaschinen des Pfarrers Philipp Matthäus Hahn und verwendet ebenfalls Staffelwalzen als Schaltorgan. Das Original befindet sich im Hessischen Landesmuseum in Darmstadt.
