Ein Arithmomètre ist eine mechanische Rechenmaschine, die von dem Franzosen Charles Xavier Thomas de Colmar (1785-1870) erfunden wurde. Es ist die erste serienmäßig hergestellte Rechenmaschine der Welt. Mit ihr konnten neben Additionen und Subtraktionen auch durch fortgesetzte Addition bzw. Subtraktion Multiplikationen und Divisionen ausgeführt werden. Die edle Ausführung dieser Rechenmaschine war ein Geschenk für den König von Portugal.
